Big Improvements on the Bernadette HallWork to replace the main hall floor begins on Fri 23rd Oct and the hall and stage will be out-of-bounds for about a week.
This original maple floor was laid in 1958 when the new hall was built - so it has served us well over its 57-year lifespan. Ireland's top showbands of the 60's & 70's regularly played to full houses in the Bernadette Hall and it was regarded as one of the best dance floors around. When the original hall was refurbished & extended to incorporate Eskra Community Centre in 2005, a decision was made to retain the existing floor since it was still in excellent condition. Since then however, the high level of usage has taken its toll and it's now time to replace it. Playtime Day Nursery, which is based in the Centre, secured funding from the Bright Start programme in order to maintain and extend its Out-Of-Schools club. This funding, along with additional investment from ECA, will see a number of improvements being carried out over the next few months. We ask our patrons to be patient during this time. Where possible, we have scheduled work for evenings and weekends to minimise disruption. Hopefully it will be all worthwhile and we can look forward to another 50+ years of service from the new floor. |
