Saturday 07th Dec 12 noon Rankin and McGlynn storm to wins with Record Times
On Saturday morning over 400 runners and walkers descended on Eskra for the annual Rudolph Run 10k and 5k. This year the event was celebrating 10 years since the first race in 2010. The runners and walkers took on the challenging 5k and 10k routes round the narrow country roads in dry and mild conditions which proved idea for running with both male and female 10k course records falling. The Organisers Knockmany Running Club and Eskra Community Association were delighted with the large turnout of participants from across the country and would like to thank all for supporting this year’s event. The undulating 10k route was won by Foyle Valley athlete Scott Rankin , Rankin showed his class by pulling clear of the field to finish in a record time of 31.24, a time which had stood since Stephen Duncan set the previous record in 2011. Eoin Mullan (Omagh Harriers) finished second in a time of 31.50 and in third place was Stephen Duncan(Omagh Harriers) in a time of 33.58. The impressive Ann- Marie McGlynn stormed to victory in the ladies race, the Letterkenny AC athlete who has her eyes set on next year’s Olympics crossed the line in 34.15 again a record time for the Eskra 10k breaking her own record set in 2015. Next to finish in second place was Pauline McGurren in a time of 39.56 and in third place was local runner Grainne O’Hagan (Knockmany Running Club) in a time of 40.44. The 5k Race was won by Sean Diamond(Omagh Harriers) in a time of 18.06, second place Ciaran McCarroll (under 18) 20.02 and third place Enda Lynch (under 18) 20.02. Excelling in the Ladies 5k was winner was Eimear McCarroll (under 18) 19.09, second place Aobhin NicCormaic (under 18) (Glaslough Harriers) 19.20 and third place Sorcha Mullan (under 18) (Omagh Harriers) 19.27. This year the Mens 10k Team winners were Omagh Harriers, second place was Enniskillen Running Club and third place Carmen Runners, Omagh Harriers also claimed victory in the Ladies 10k Team event with Knockmany Running Club taking second and the Coffee Crew team were third. The other category winners were Fergus McGirr (Enniskillen Running Club) Male O40, Chris McGuigan (Omagh Harriers) Male O50 and Tommy Gartland (Knockmany Running Club) Male O60. Lucy McDermott (Omagh Harriers) Female O40, Cathy Cunningham (Omagh Harriers) Female O50 and Bernie McQuade Female O60. The Organisers would like to thank all who contributed to the success of this year’s event, with everyone grateful of hot refreshments served in Eskra Community Centre after the race. This year proceeds go to Eskra Community Association for running costs of Community Centre and to Knockmany Running Club for the development project in Knockmany forest. |
